Larsen Takes Utah
September 4th, 2008

After narrowly missing in the Monday Qualifier at Valley View GC, Kevin Larsen made the most of the trip with a convincing win in the Cleveland Golf Tour's Utah event. Larsen, from Santa Barbara, won the event with rounds of 64-67 -- 131 (-13). Larsen started fast at Glen Eagle GC with birdies on 3 of the first 5 holes. A hole-in-one at the 180 yard, par-3, 13th hole was the true highlight the bogey-free round and the lead. Steve Holmes was two strokes back after round one.

The two-stroke lead disappeared on second hole when Larsen made bogey and Holmes birdied. Holmes took the lead briefly on the third hole, but Larsen took it back for good on the fourth. Joseph Summerhays (68 in Round 1) crept into the picture in Round 2 with a 65 (133 total) to finish second. This kept things interesting for Larsen, but it wasn't enough as he continued to hit the right shots down the stretch.

Larsen won $5,000 for the win after Tour Sponsor, Cleveland Golf, "guaranteed" the first place payout. Eric Hird (72-64) and Jeff LeMaster (68-68) finished in a tie for third at 136.

Next week's event will be held at Banbury GC in Eagle, Idaho on Tue-Wed, Sept. 9-10. First prize will be guaranteed at $5,000.
